Mercedes-Benz India has just launched the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2026 in the Indian market. For 2026, the luxury sedan features a host of improvements aimed at keeping it ahead of the competition in the ultra-luxury segment. While the overall design remains unmistakably S-Class, the latest model brings subtle styling revisions, upgraded tech features, improved connectivity and refinements that further elevate the ownership experience. In this article, we take a look at the first five things you need to know. Power train The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered with only one hybrid powertrain option. Notably, it is the first S-Class to be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in India, combining a petrol engine with an electric motor for improved efficiency and performance. It is powered by a 3.0-liter turbo-petrol inline six-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor to produce a combined 435 hp and 680 Nm of torque. Power comes from a 22 kWh battery, which Mercedes-Benz says can provide an electric-only driving range of up to 115 kilometers under ideal conditions.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission, and it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. The S 450e’s 22kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes with a 60kW DC fast charger. The plug-in hybrid luxury sedan is claimed to deliver a fuel efficiency of 32.2 kmpl in the WLTP test cycle.Drawing In terms of design, the updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class retains its overall design profile, although most of the visual revisions are focused on the front. The facelift features a larger grille with chrome star inserts and an illuminated surround, while the bonnet-mounted Mercedes emblem is now backlit. The redesigned headlights are larger and feature triple star-shaped daytime running lights.

Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the sedan with its latest micro-LED Digital Light technology, which the company claims improves lighting by 40 percent. The system also includes an ultra-range beam capable of illuminating up to 600 meters ahead. Changes along the sides are relatively limited and include newly designed alloy wheels. The luxury sedan now incorporates more cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support updated driver assistance features. At the rear, the main update comes in the form of slimmer LED tail lamps with three-pointed star lighting elements, similar to those seen on the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Interiors, features Moving on to the interior, the updated S-Class gets a glossy black dashboard layout that integrates three screens, dubbed by Mercedes-Benz Superscreen. The configuration includes a 12.3-inch driver display, a front passenger screen and a larger 14.4-inch central touchscreen that manages most of the vehicle’s functions. The sedan also adopts MB OS’s latest digital architecture, which integrates systems such as lighting, cameras, suspension and powertrain controls. The software supports cloud connectivity, AI-based features, Google Maps navigation and vehicle technology throughout.Rear passengers continue to get two 13.1-inch entertainment screens, while the previous rear control tablet has been replaced by two smaller touch-based controllers. The cabin retains leather upholstery and optional wood trim, while climate fans are now integrated behind illuminated metal panels with electrically adjustable airflow controls.Most of the vehicle’s functions are operated through the touchscreen interface and capacitive shortcut controls. The car also features facial recognition through a dashboard-mounted camera, which additionally supports video calling and cabin monitoring. Rear seat comfort remains a major focus, with the long-distance version continuing to offer up to 43 degrees of seat recline, along with heating, ventilation, massage functions and an optional four-seat layout.Price, variantsThe 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in two main variants – Launch Edition Exclusive Line priced at Rs 2.20 crores and the flagship Edition AMG Line priced at Rs 2.38 crores (both ex-showroom prices). Compared to its predecessor, which was priced from Rs 1.85 crore, the new S-Class commands a premium of Rs 35 lakh at the entry level.

Reservations, shipping Interested customers can book the new S-Class by visiting their nearest dealership, and deliveries are expected to begin around Diwali in the fourth quarter of 2026.
