Affordable EVs under Rs 13 lakh: New Tata Tiago, Comet and more

Rising gasoline and diesel prices, lower operating costs, and a growing charging network are prompting more buyers to consider electric mobility for everyday use. Unlike a few years ago, EV ownership is no longer limited to higher budget segments. Customers now have several options in the Rs 15 lakh bracket, offering a range of practical driving, essential features and adaptability for daily commutes.From compact city-focused models to larger family-oriented vehicles, the market offers a range of choices to meet different needs. Here’s a look at some of the most affordable electric cars currently available in India under Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom, without BaaS). 1. Tata Tiago The first EV in the list is the Tata Tiago EV, priced from Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered in four variants and two battery options – 19.2kWh and 24kWh. The 24 kWh battery variant offers 75 HP and 114 Nm, while the 19.2 kWh version produces 61 HP and 110 Nm. The claimed MIDC range for the larger battery has increased to 285 km from 293 km, while the smaller battery variant now offers 226 km, up from 223 km. According to Tata Motors, the actual C75 range is estimated at 205-215km for the 24kWh version and 160-170km for the 19.2kWh model.2. MG Comet The second EV in the list is the MG Comet EV, priced from Rs 7.6 lakh (ex-showroom). The MG Comet EV is offered in five variants: Executive, Excite, Excite Fast Charge, Exclusive and Exclusive Fast Charge. Speaking of the battery and electric motor, it gets a 17.3kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor that puts out 42hp and 110Nm of torque, sending power to the rear wheels. The battery is IP67 rated for water and dust resistance and gets an ARAI certified range of 230 km.3. Tata Punch EV Another Tata Motors car on the list is the Tata Punch EV, priced from Rs 9.7 lakh (ex-showroom). The Punch EV is offered with two battery options: 30 kWh and 40 kWh, and is available in five variants: Smart, Smart +, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered + S. Prices for the non-BaaS versions range from Rs 9.69 lakh to Rs 12.59 lakh, ex-showroom. The larger battery pack has an ARAI-certified range of 468km on a single charge and a real-world C75 range of 355km.4. Citroën eC3Next is Citroen eC3 priced from Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Citroën eC3 is equipped with a 29.2 kWh battery that powers the front electric motor, putting out 56 hp of power and 143 Nm of torque. The eC3 has an ARAI-certified range of 320 km on a single charge. 5. Tata Tigor EV Next is the Tata Tigor EV, priced at Rs 12.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tata Tigor EV is powered by a 75 hp electric motor that produces 170 Nm of torque, paired with a 26 kWh battery. The sedan offers an ARAI-certified range of 315 km on a single charge. The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in about 59 minutes using a DC fast charger.
