NEW DELHI: BCCI has named Suryansh Shedge to replace Nitish Kumar Reddy in the squad for the upcoming T20Is against Ireland and England after the all-rounder was sidelined with a quadriceps injury.Nitish also reported discomfort in his left quadriceps after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. After a medical examination, the BCCI Medical Committee recommended a rehabilitation period, effectively ruling him out of both duties.The injury comes after the 23-year-old has already missed the second ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow. Although he appeared in the series, the problem worsened, forcing him to withdraw from the upcoming white ball practice. The exact time of return is yet to be determined.India will play two T20Is against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before traveling to England for a five-match series scheduled for July 1, 4, 7, 9 and 11.

Shedge’s promotion comes after an impressive run against India A in the recently concluded tournament in Sri Lanka. The 23-year-old middle-order has scored 147 runs in five matches and also contributed with the ball, bowling 23 overs a game.He has already emerged as one of Mumbai’s best players during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-2025. Batting at the bottom of the middle order, Shedge scored 131 runs at a staggering average of 251.92, showing the finishing ability that has brought him into the selectors’ radar.Even before the announcement, reports suggested that Shedge was Nitish’s successor because of his recent actions in Sri Lanka.

The Indian team has already started traveling to Ireland in groups. One group, plus Sanju SamsonAxar Patel, young star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, bowling coach Morne Morkel and bowling coach T Dilip, have left Chennai, while several players have left for Mumbai.Nitish, who represented India in 10 Tests, six ODIs and four T20Is, will now focus on rehabilitation in the hope of making a quick comeback.For Shedge, the call-up represents a huge win and an opportunity to cement his position as India embark on an important white-ball tour of Ireland and England.
