CHENNAI: Ishan Kishan has added another chapter to his amazing comeback story. After putting up a stunning display at the T20 World Cup earlier this year after forcing his way back to India, the Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman is now making himself a household name in the ODI format.Ishan, playing ODIs after almost three years, made his debut with 34 runs at No. 3 in the opening series against Afghanistan. In the second ODI, at No. 4, he went a little further, making a world-class 125 off 79 balls to create an interesting story in a series in which India are testing the batting titles. As the players enter the third and final ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Saturday having already wrapped up the series 2-0, the dead rubber serves as a good canvas for Ishan, who has replaced the injured. Virat Kohlito build at his expense. In his knock in the previous match, the 27-year-old showed how he has transformed into a 50-over batsman. But his resurgence is presenting ‘a lot of trouble’ to the team management, who have not named England’s ODI squad. Kohli is expected to reclaim his No. 3 spot and with KL Rahul left behind as India’s preferred wicketkeeper-batsman in the first XI, the chances look slim on paper. But, according to India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, Ishan ticks a lot of boxes “I think with Ishan, the only concern was ‘can he transform himself from a T20 player into a 50-over player, and maybe even a red-ball player?’ I think he has shown that. By nature, he is very aggressive and we still feel he has a place in the team. You have a solid team around him if you include Virat and Shubman (Gill). And we’re seeing that kind of template and having guys who still follow through,” the coach said.Harshit inside but impossible to playMeanwhile, ten Jechate also revealed that Nitish Kumar Reddy may return after missing the previous ODI, while Arshdeep is expected to be rested. Fast bowler Harshit Rana, who was added to India’s squad for the third ODI, will not feature.
