After building a successful career in Tamil and Telugu cinema, GV Prakash Kumar is now gearing up for an important new chapter in Bollywood. The composer directed the complete soundtrack for ‘Nayi Naveli,’ produced by: Anand L Rai: and directed by Balaji Mohan. While GV Prakash has previously contributed to Hindi cinema through projects like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur,’ he says this is the first time he has produced an entire album for a Hindi film. The project has already generated interest among music lovers who are eager to hear his work in a new market.
The composer said the ‘Nayi Naveli’ songs are in safe hands
Talking about the project with Variety India, GV Prakash expressed confidence in the film and its music. “I had worked in Gangs of Wasseypur before because of my friendship with Anurag Kashyap, but ‘Nayi Naveli’ was my first full-fledged Hindi film album,” he says. He added, “I composed all the songs for the film, and I believe it will be great.” The composer was also full of praise for the lead actress Yami Gautam. “Yami expresses emotions wonderfully on screen. When an actor can express emotions naturally, a composer feels confident that the songs are in safe hands,” he explained.
GV Prakash believes that music connects beyond language
GV Prakash also shares his thoughts on working in different film industries. According to him, composing for Hindi films is no different from composing music for Tamil or Telugu cinema. “Every film is a challenge for me. Language doesn’t change my approach,” he said. “I compose each soundtrack as if it were my first project.” The composer also spoke about the importance of traditional film songs. “Songs that are lip-synced have a special visual appeal. I strongly believe that this helps a song connect with the audience and become a blockbuster,” he said.
GV Prakash responds to compensation rumours
The composer also responded to frequent discussions about the fees he charged for films. “People always think I pay a lot, but that’s not true,” he said. “My fee depends on the size of the project. For smaller films, I charge accordingly, and for bigger productions, the budget is naturally different.” Looking back on his nearly two-decade career, GV Prakash says he approaches every song with fresh energy. Having composed music for over 120 films, he hopes to continue the journey and create more memorable soundtracks in the years to come.
