Filmmaker: RJ Balaji addressed the controversy surrounding his recent travel comments Syria starrer ‘Karuppu’. The discussion started after social media users felt that his comments were given more weight in: Vijay: compared to Suriya, who ended up leading the film.He explained that the intention was to describe how the script moves through various stages before reaching its final form. According to him, the narrative that was misread online led to unnecessary comparisons between the two actors.
The “Karuppu” director explains how the project first took shape
In a recent fan interaction held by Cineulagam, Balaji detailed how the idea for ‘Karuppu’ started. He said that the first version of the script was narrated to Vijay, which indirectly helped open more professional opportunities. He clarified the sequence of events behind the evolution of the project.“Initially I narrated this film to Vijay sir and told him that the whole journey started with him.”He added that this early narration was not part of a final collaboration but played an important role in shaping his next steps as a filmmaker.
Early storytelling led to wider access to the industry
RJ Balaji further explained that the connection established through Vijay’s initial hearing of the script helped him gain access to new production circles. He said it was a change that finally led him to present the story to Suriya’s group.“I have reached Suriya sir mainly because Vijay sir has heard this story.”He added that the producers who later approached him already knew the first narration, which strengthened the interest in the project. This, according to him, creates a natural progression from one stage of development to another.
Balaji credited Suriya for casting the last film
While describing the early journey, Balaji made it clear that the finished film and its success belonged to Suriya. He emphasized that the final version of Karuppu and its audience acceptance was completely shaped by Suriya’s involvement.“For that first door to open, telling Vijay sir became the reason. Somewhere in my mind and heart, that has a very special place,”“We didn’t collaborate on a film together. Suriya sir actually made the film. Whatever I have in my life now — the love I got, this life-changing moment — is because I did a film with Suriya sir. But the first door opened because people asked for the story I had told Vijay sir.”
Meet Vijay and explain the reactions
Balaji also talked about meeting Vijay after the success of ‘Karuppu’. He described the interaction as emotionally significant and said it felt like completing a personal cycle.“Like the pooja we performed for Karuppu at the Masani Amman temple, I felt the journey felt complete only when I returned to express my gratitude. That’s why I returned.”On Vijay’s reaction, he said, “He said it was a good script and he knew the outcome would be good.”‘Karuppu’ also features Trisha, Swasika, Supreeth Reddy, Indrans, and Sshivada in lead roles. The movie is now streaming on OTT.
