The Americans remain one of the oldest names in World Cup history. Their biggest success came in the inaugural tournament in 1930 when they reached the semi-finals, while their most recent campaign ended in the Round of 16 against the Netherlands. Their impressive win over Paraguay provided an encouraging start as they try to improve on their recent form and gain the advantage of home support throughout the tournament.
Australia will arrive in Seattle on their own. The Socceroos have made it to six consecutive World Cups since returning to the competition in 2006 after a 32-year absence. His influence was immediately visible against Turkey when Australia gave one of the most mature performances on the opening day.
