The horror franchise film ‘Haunted 3D. Echoes of the Past’ was the surprise winner of the batch of Hindi releases last week – ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’, ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, and ‘Governor’. Facing high-profile dramas, the supernatural film has managed to top the collections and is currently leading the week’s box office race.
Vikram Bhatt reaction to the film performance at the box office
Speaking to News 18, director Vikram Bhatt shared that he was not surprised by the strong showing of the film, although many people felt that the film had not been promoted aggressively. He explained that the marketing campaign was designed keeping a specific audience in mind, rather than going for a broad, expensive push.He said, “No, I’m not (surprised). Because the film was promoted. But it was promoted where we thought we should promote it. For better or worse, we didn’t have a budget to carpet bomb. So we targeted the audience that we knew would come to the film.”
Why is the promotion strategy different?
The director further revealed that hoardings for the film have been put up, but the team has consciously avoided overdoing the promotions. He said it was because they were watching ‘Haunted 3D’. Echoes of the Past’ as a mass film, and believed that ticket sales would come from that specific audience base rather than a broad metro-centric campaign.Bhatt added that trade experts may have overlooked the film’s promotional efforts simply because the marketing was not targeted at them or the major metro cities on a large scale. “We were clear about that,” added the director.
Box office:
Hopefully in 3D. Echoes of the Past’ has earned Rs 18.91 crore gross and Rs 16.12 crore net in India so far. In comparison, Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ collected Rs 14.60 crore gross and Rs 12.25 crore net in the same period.Starring: Mahaakshay Chakrabortythe film was released in theaters on June 12, 2026.
