Andhra Pradesh opens Canva to millions of government school students: Here's how it will help students
Government school students in Andhra Pradesh will soon have access to Canva’s educational tools under a state-wide partnership signed by the state government. The program is designed to help students develop presentation, design and visual communication skills while encouraging creative learning. Teachers can also use the platform to create more engaging and interactive classroom content.

Students in public schools in Andhra Pradesh will soon be able to use Canva to create presentations, videos, infographics and visual projects after the Andhra Pradesh government signed an agreement with the global design platform to provide free access across the public education system. The agreement was signed on June 18 by the Ministry of Education, Samagra Shiksha and Canva. Teachers and education ministry officials will also have access to the platform. The move makes Andhra Pradesh the first state in India to make Canva for Education available to all government school students across the state, according to an official press release issued on Saturday.

From consuming content to creating content

For years, digital learning in schools has centered around watching videos, taking online courses or accessing study materials. The Canva partnership aims to add another dimension: content creation.Students will now be able to design presentations, prepare project reports, develop infographics, edit videos, and create visual learning materials using tools widely used in educational institutions and workplaces around the world. This shift is significant as communication skills are increasingly assessed not just through written assignments, but also through presentations and visual storytelling.

Why this move is important

As higher education institutions and companies emphasize digital literacy, it is increasingly necessary for students to effectively communicate ideas, collaborate, and use technology proficiently. The launch of Canva gives public school students access to these skills from an early age. Whether it’s a science project, a classroom presentation, or a team assignment, students have the option to turn information into engaging visuals through the platform.Education experts have long argued that exposure to these tools can help students become more confident communicators and creative thinkers.

Teachers will also benefit

The partnership is not limited to students. Teachers will be able to use Canva to prepare lesson plans, classroom presentations, worksheets, posters and other teaching resources.Rather than relying solely on traditional teaching methods, educators can use visual materials to explain concepts and make lessons more interactive.Education department officials can also use the platform for communication and administrative work.

Digital learning promotion

The agreement reflects a broader effort to bring technology-driven learning into public schools. While access to devices and internet connectivity remains a challenge in many parts of the country, education systems are increasingly looking for ways to provide students with practical digital skills and academic knowledge.By opening Canva’s tools to millions of students, Andhra Pradesh believes that creativity, communication skills and digital fluency will become as important as traditional classroom learning in the coming years.
