A Brazilian woman, accused of repeatedly stalking BTS member Jungkook, has been handed a suspended prison sentence by a South Korean court and could now be deported from the country.The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, was sentenced by the Seoul district court to one year in prison, suspended for two years, after repeatedly visiting the residence of the K-pop star despite several warnings from the authorities. According to court proceedings, the woman started visiting Jungkook’s residence since December last year, saying her actions were motivated by ‘love for the singer’.
The stalker rang Jungkook’s doorbell 133 times
According to a BBC report, prosecutors said he repeatedly visited Jungkook’s home in Seoul, and tried to leave letters and photos on the property, while ignoring police orders. The report also said that one of the incidents saw him ringing the singer’s doorbell 133 times.The court said the woman showed an “extreme level of obsession.”
The stalker left letters at Junkook’s residence
Authorities say the woman first visited Jungkook’s residence on Dec. 7, where she was walking around the outside of the property, throwing things against walls and pushing letters through door cracks. Despite receiving warnings, he returned a few days later and repeatedly rang the doorbell.On December 13, he was arrested after allegedly following a food delivery worker through a side entrance in an attempt to enter the property. He was released the next day with a warning not to approach the residence.
The stalker ignores the restraining order
However, prosecutors said he ignored the warnings and continued to visit the area. According to the report, this prompted the police to issue an emergency restraining order, prohibiting him from coming within 100 meters of Jungkook’s house.Despite that, he allegedly continued to visit the property, about 22 times in total.While handing down the sentence, the judge noted that the defendant’s risk of reoffending was considered “not significant,” leading to a suspended prison sentence. In addition to the sentence, the woman is expected to be deported from South Korea unless she successfully appeals the decision.The verdict comes a year after a shocking incident involving a stalker made waves online. In June last year, a Chinese woman in her 30s was arrested in Seoul after she allegedly tried to break into Jungkook’s house just hours after he completed his mandatory military service.
