Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batsman Abishek Porel has found himself at the center of controversy after a woman filed a complaint with the police accusing him of having a physical relationship with her during a marriage promise and later refused to fulfill the promise. The complaint also contains allegations of assault and threats of prosecution.The complaint was filed along with the woman and her mother at Mogra Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Tuesday. Police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched following the allegations.According to the complaint, the woman said that she and Porel have been in a relationship for the past three years. She also said that problems started to arise between them last year, after which the cricketer gradually started to distance himself from her.The complainant also said that Porel had assured her that he would marry her but now he has gone back on that promise. She also accused the 23-year-old cricketer of having sex with her in the hope of getting married.In addition to these issues, the woman said that she was being insulted and threatened.“We have received the complaint and have started an investigation,” a police officer told PTI.Porel has strongly denied the allegations. The wicketkeeper batsman, who is currently in Bengaluru, described the allegations as baseless and said the timing of the complaint was linked to his recent success on the cricket field.“I’m playing well now, so different things are coming,” Porel told the press.The Bengal cricketer also said that he would give a detailed reply to the authorities once they complete the initial phase of their investigation.I will talk about this when the police investigate, I have not spoken to the police,” he said.Porel has been part of the establishment of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League since 2023. IPL season, the left-handed batsman scored 108 runs from four innings of the franchise.He made his senior debut for Bengal in the 2021–22 domestic season and played 32 first-team matches and 23 List A matches. Porel also traveled with the India A teams on tours to the United Kingdom and Australia.The investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
