NEW DELHI: Once upon a time Wimbledon athlete Marketa Vondroussova has been banned for four years after failing an anti-doping test at her home in December 2025. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said an independent tribunal had found the Czech player guilty of violating anti-doping rules. His suspension will last until 21 June 2030, although he has the option of appealing the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.Vondrousova, who made history by becoming the first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon in 2023, said it came at a difficult time in her life and linked her actions to her mental health issues.“It’s very difficult for me to talk about this, but I want to be clear about my health,” said Vondroussova. “The latest doping control incident happened because I reached my peak after months of physical and mental stress.”The 26-year-old previously said she refused the test due to “stress” and fear when the examiner “rang at my door late at night without identifying himself.”According to the ITIA, Vondrousova “did not provide samples after being notified by the Doping Control Officer (DCO) during a competitive test at her home around 8 pm on 3 December 2025.”Vondrousova was represented by lawyer Howard Jacobs, who previously helped Simona Halep reduce her four-year ban. The Czech star now joins the list of leading players who have been linked with recent scandals, including Halep, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. The decision comes just days before Wimbledon starts.
