An Austrian man accused of involvement in the failed terror plot targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna is reportedly facing the possible death penalty in Saudi Arabia. According to the latest reports, the man, a 21-year-old, is currently on trial for a separate alleged terrorist attack and is reportedly facing capital punishment. The 21-year-old suspect, identified only as Hasan E under Austria’s strict privacy laws, is accused of carrying out a stabbing attack in the Saudi city of Mecca in March 2024, the Daily Mail reported. Prosecutors said the attack, which left five people injured, was carried out by Hasan for ISIS.According to the report, Hasan E was arrested on March 11, 2024, the day of the alleged stabbing. He was later linked to a wider extremist network that authorities believe included individuals connected to the planned attack on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Vienna. During the trial, the Saudi Arabian courts are said to have heard evidence about Hasan E’s alleged connection to the terror cell behind the failed attack on the Austrian concert in August 2024.According to the report, investigators say Hasan E conspired with Beran A, who was later convicted for his role in the Vienna concert plot, and Arda K, another alleged member of the extremist network. Beran A was later sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in the concert attack plan, which could have resulted in many casualties. In addition to the authorities, Hasan E has a close relationship with Beran A, and is said to be a ‘former schoolmate’ and ‘jihadist mentor’.Arda K was not accused of participating in the Vienna concert plot himself, but was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role within the alleged jihadist cell.According to prosecutors, the group allegedly discussed carrying out coordinated attacks in several locations, including Istanbul and Dubai. However, the plans were reportedly abandoned before they could be implemented.Reports indicate that Hasan E has repeatedly sought extradition to Austria while awaiting trial in Saudi Arabia. However, the efforts were reportedly unsuccessful. The verdict against Hasan E is expected tomorrow. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
