Kunal Kemmu on why alliances are central to human life
Talking to Hindustan Times, Kunal Kemmu explained the concept behind ‘Alliance’ and why it is more than a reality show format. He said, “There’s a family you’re born into, and there’s a family you make or choose, like friends that become like family. And sometimes family ties don’t last. Human life is based on alliances. In the past, if you couldn’t be a hunter or a gatherer, you had to make alliances to survive. “Alliances are what you need to survive,” he said.
Kunal Kemmu acknowledges Bollywood camps
When the conversation turned to the notorious existence of camps and groups in Hindi cinema, Kemmu did not shy away from addressing it directly.The actor said, “It’s there. It’s not just the way things happen, but it happens in any field. You may feel good or bad about it, but the truth is that it will remain. It’s human nature. If I like someone and I want to work with them, you can’t make me not work with them. It may be disadvantageous for others, but unfortunately, that’s the way.”
Talent versus math in Bollywood business
In the same conversation, Kunal Kemmu also reflected on how the film industry has evolved and continues to prioritize factors beyond pure talent.He shared, “Camps hote the, ab thode kam hain because tab kuch hi families thi jo films bana rahi thi (There are camps. Now there are fewer than before only a few families make films). Corporations have arrived. But even today, business is not always decided by talent. It was decided by some math, which makes no sense. “He added, “That’s why we started making projects and not films. Luckily, time teaches everything. Now people don’t watch films anymore. They tell us they need content, not projects.”
