ENG vs NZ, Third Test Live: Archer, Stokes keep England alive with the ball

England’s bowlers did not allow New Zealand to score comfortably despite the visitors’ strong start to the day. Jofra Archer struck early by removing Tom Blundell and then took his fourth wicket when Nathan Smith bowled a short ball to Jamie Smith. Ben Stokes bowled another impressive spell, bowling 11 consecutive overs despite the need.

He later dismissed Zakary Foulkes after breaking a stubborn contract, with the wicket coming shortly after news broke that this would be his last game. Jamie Smith also played a vital role behind the stumps by convincing Stokes to look good again against Mitchell Santner. Earlier in the day, Shoaib Bashir denied Rachin Ravindra a well-deserved century by trapping him lbw for 94. England’s efforts thwarted New Zealand’s threat, but Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten century saw the visitors declared a huge advantage.
