New Delhi: There was a tense moment in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final between West Indies and Australia at The Oval on Tuesday when star spinner Deandra Dottin had to be carried by her teammates before the match began.This happened right after the national anthem. Dottin did not appear to be feeling well, although it was not immediately clear if he suffered an injury or illness.His early exit caused concern in the West Indies camp ahead of their biggest match of the tournament.
Dottin returns to bat for the West Indies
Despite his scare, Dottin returned later in the innings as the West Indies were in dire straits at 83/6.Batting at number 8, he played 26 not out from 16 balls, adding a vital partnership with Jannillea Glasgow to help the West Indies back to 125/7 in their 20 overs.At one point, the Caribbean side looked a little down when Dottin’s late arrival gave them a fighting chance.
Coach provides health updates
Speaking at the break, West Indies head coach Shane Deitz confirmed that Dottin was feeling fine.“He had a bit of a problem but he’s fine now, and he had a good innings there.”After the innings, Deitz revealed that Dottin was sick but praised his determination.“He had a medical problem,” coach Deitz said.“He’s fine now and he played a good innings at that end. He gave us a little bit all over.“Hopefully we will bat well, the first few wickets, we have a chance to win.“He’s a tough character. It’s hard to stop him. We hope he comes out with a chip in and a wicket or two.”
Australia is going to the final
West Indies reached the semi-finals after defeating New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Scotland in the groups.However, their campaign ended in the last four as Australia chased down their target.The six-time champions reached 126/2 in just 13 overs, winning by eight wickets to book their place in the finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup.Ashleigh Gardner led the charge with an unbeaten 61 off 36 balls, ensuring Australia progressed easily.
