Story: A young, single mother with a dark past assumes different identities to survive with her young son, but when they are separated, the boy doesn’t know how to find him.Review: Through Manjummel Boys, Chidambaram has shown that he knows how to extract maximum emotions and excitement from a situation. Her new survival drama, about a young single mother and her son, especially in a screenplay by hitmaker Jithu Madhavan, has raised similar expectations. While the film has its share of moments, the emotions remain surprisingly muted. Especially in the climax, although the resolution is interesting, the lack of a stronger emotional build-up prevents it from reaching its full potential. The right emotional beats could have lifted the film to another plane, but the ending felt a little off.Indhu/Mary/Sherly is a woman running from her past, but with a clear goal for the future. He wanted to raise his youth without becoming a demon or a slave to humans. But fearing that his old life may catch up with him, he takes on different jobs under different names to ensure his safety and that of his son. So is his past catching up or his own demons destroying their lives? The first half is captivating, driven by a novel idea, layered storytelling and excellent performances, especially from adorable child actor Adhisheshan KR, who plays the titular role with remarkable ease. And this is a small film making where we can see how well the director and actor work together. And credit to Chidambaram’s brilliance in how the narrative seems to convey the construction of childhood trauma.However, there are also some niggling holes in the script and some messed up characters that feel disjointed from the rest of the film. While Farzana Palathingal’s restrained performance does well in conveying the mystery and turmoil of her character, the script fails her when it comes to conveying emotions, which are an essential part of the story. In fact, Tovino’s character, Abbas, seems to show a more emotional bond; even easily moved in parts, which increases the curiosity of the character.There is a certain sadness in the story that tugs at your heartstrings. And watch it for the child actor, who brings a comedic charm even in some moments.
