NEW DELHI: Fresh off a knock in the final of the Tri-Nation Series, young batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a cheeky admission about his achievements in 50-over cricket, saying most people might not realize how much experience he has.The 15-year-old starred in India A’s win over Sri Lanka A on Sunday, smashing 94 off just 29 balls. In doing so, he registered the fastest List A fifty in history, reaching the milestone in just 11 deliveries. His fiery start helped India A post 377/9 before bowling out Sri Lanka A for 311 to seal a comfortable 66-run victory. Although he entered the final after a slow run with the bat and some struggles on the field against the same opposition in the previous match, Sooryavanshi said he never felt any difficulties.“I didn’t think about anything. I just wanted to do what I had planned in the first decade and progress from there,” said Sooryavanshi when he was named as a footballer.Questions were raised about the youngster’s form and temperament after he managed just 117 runs in four innings during the tournament. But Sooryavanshi revealed that discussions with sponsors helped him rediscover his music.Watch: “There is no pressure. I wasn’t doing what I wanted. But after talking with the coaches, I got it right. I learned a lot in this series,” he said.Best known for his six-wicket haul in T20 cricket, the left-hander insisted that he was also comfortable in the longer white-ball format.“I have played a lot of 50-over cricket. I don’t know if people know about it,” he said.“The problem was related to different conditions, it was good to continue.”
Tilak Varma Appreciate the team’s response
Team India captain Tilak Varma has hailed the team’s resilience after back-to-back defeats earlier in the tournament.“Everyone showed real character. Especially when we lost back-to-back games. Then we won by a huge margin which was huge,” said Tilak.“Everybody has played domestic cricket and has experience. It’s just a matter of preparation before the game. We start big, encourage each other and accelerate,” he added.Sri Lankan military commander Sahan Arachchige accepted Sooryavanshi’s actions.“Sooryavanshi bowled very well. We had a good run of the innings there but we let it run in the last two overs,” said Arachchige.“When we are chasing big goals, the top order can be cheap. It happens. The young guys have played well, the seniors have got it too. It has been a good competition,” he added.
