A major update has come regarding the deep fake case as the Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police has arrested three people. For the uninitiated, this has to do with the creation and circulation of AI-generated content involving ‘Kantara’ actor Rukmini Vasanth.The authorities initiated the action after tracking the spread of fabricated pictures and videos that allegedly depicted the actor in misleading scenarios.Reports from India Today said officials confirmed that the accused were arrested after a detailed investigation into the online content distribution network. Reportedly, the police stated that the materials were created using artificial intelligence tools.
Digital evidence was seized during the investigation
Cybercrime officials have reportedly seized three mobile phones from the accused. These devices are under forensic examination to recover digital evidence related to the creation and circulation of manipulated content.The investigative team is working to determine if multiple individuals are involved. Officials indicated that the investigation is still in the early stages. More arrests have not been ruled out as the investigation continues.
Complaint filed after fake pictures went viral
The case started after Rukmini Vasanth filed a cybercrime complaint. The complaint follows the circulation of AI-generated images that falsely depict her in a swim suit.The actor clarified that the visuals are purely made up and have no connection to his real identity.According to reports, those arrested were brought before a judicial magistrate and subsequently remanded in custody. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The issue first surfaced in May when similar AI-generated visuals began circulating online.
‘Kantara’ actor’s public response to X:
After the controversy, Rukmini Vasanth released a public statement on her X account. He urged people not to engage with or spread manipulated content.“My team and I saw some AI-generated images being circulated online claiming to be me. The creation and circulation of such manipulated content is highly irresponsible and a gross violation of privacy,” he wrote.He added, “We are taking this matter seriously and have initiated the necessary legal and cybercrime action against those involved in the creation and dissemination of these images.On the work front, Rukmini Vasanth will next be seen in Yash’s ‘Toxic’.
