The latest ICC ODI batting rankings saw a dramatic change at the top, with the Indian captain Shubman Gill climb to number 2 and pass their partner Virat Kohliwho has dropped to third place. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma they continue to occupy the fourth position following another successful ODI series.Gill’s rise in the rankings comes after a brilliant performance in India’s recently concluded three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The right-hander remained consistent throughout the series and played a key role in India’s 3-0 clean sweep. He scored 84 in the first ODI before making a superb 154 in the second match. His performance earned him the Player of the Series award and helped him secure three places in the rankings.Kohli, on the other hand, dropped one spot even though he continues to be among the best ODI batsmen in international cricket. The former Indian skipper held the No. 2 spot for a long time, but his absence from the Afghanistan series was due to a hamstring injury he suffered in the final match of IPL 2026 between RCB and GT. His absence caused Gill to go ahead of him. However, Kohli is expected to return for the three-match ODI series against England in July, where he will look to reclaim the role as he competes with Shubman Gill. Rohit Sharma, who is currently ranked fourth, is also looking to climb the rankings. Rohit scored 143 runs in the Afghanistan series in 115 overs, including brilliant knocks of 48 and 79 in the last two matches. While Daryl Mitchell continues to dominate the ODI scene with 815 points, Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran has dropped out after a disappointing performance against India.India vs England ODI Schedule:
