For 75 Indian students, their dream of studying in Europe is about to become a reality. The European Union has selected them for the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree (EMJMD) scholarship for the 2026-28 cycle, allowing them to pursue postgraduate studies at universities across Europe.Selected students will study in 15 European countries including France, Germany, Belgium, and Italy. Their courses cover a range of subjects including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, renewable energy and pharmaceutical science.The news was announced alongside the launch of the EU-India Student Ambassadors Network, a new initiative that brings together 40 student representatives from 20 universities in India. The network aims to raise awareness of European study and research opportunities and encourage more young people to become involved in the growing India-EU partnership.The EU Delegation to India said the network will serve as a peer-led community aligned with the EU-India strategic agenda, with a focus on knowledge sharing, youth engagement and innovation. The initiative is expected to strengthen academic and cultural ties between India and Europe through regular exchange of ideas.India has been the leading recipient of Erasmus Mundus scholarships since 2004 and remains among the top three globally in terms of current recipients, the EU said. There are currently around 100,000 Indian students pursuing higher education in Europe.The Erasmus+ project was launched in 1987 as an action plan for the mobility of university students in the European region and is the EU’s flagship academic exchange project.The delegation stated: “The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis through an annual call for proposals and covers tuition fees, travel expenses and living allowances. Nearly 100,000 students have benefited from the Erasmus Mundus program since 2004, consolidating its role in promoting international academic cooperation and excellence.”The newly established ambassador network includes students from 14 states and union territories. Members come from institutions such as Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Science, Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi and University of Mumbai.
