Former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Amir has begun another phase of his career after joining Notts Outlaws for the entire T20 Blast 2026 season as a domestic player after receiving British citizenship.Amir recently received a British passport through his British citizen wife Narjis Khan. As a result, he is no longer an outsider in county cricket, giving Nottinghamshire greater flexibility in team selection and opening up more opportunities for Amir in English cricket.Nottinghamshire, currently second in the North Group after six games, will hope Amir will be available for Friday’s T20 Blast match against Kent as the team look to strengthen their push for the finals.Although Amir has previously represented Derbyshire, Gloucestershire and Essex, this will be his first county appearance as a regular player. His domestic position means Notts can take two of their overseas players – South African all-rounder George Linde and Pakistani pace bowler Mohammad Ali – into his side.Speaking after joining the team, Amir said, “I’m very happy to join Notts. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the team, and I’m looking forward to it. I have a lot of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know that T20 is all about making people happy, so I’m trying to do well for this team and make this team as happy as possible and try to be as happy as possible. That energy ahead of the whole tournament.“Nottinghamshire confirmed Amir’s status in an official statement, stating that “as a British passport holder, Amir will not be counted as an overseas player for the duration of his stay at Trent Bridge, which includes any matches that Notts may play.”Amir represented Pakistan in the finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup. During his international career, he was part of the title-winning teams for Pakistan in the 2009 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.In T20 cricket, Amir has taken 425 wickets in 364 matches at an average of 22.63 with an economy rate of 7.36.
