Director Craig Gillespie’s superhero film ‘Supergirl’ has started its box office run with a modest opening in India. The film starring Millie Alcock in the lead, opened with an estimated collection of Rs 1.40 crore nett on Day 1, says a Sacnilk report.

According to early trade figures, the release by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures played in 2,967 shows, taking the India gross collection to Rs 1.67 crore. The film which was released in multiple languages, earned the highest collection from the English release of the film. Breaking down language-wise collections, the English version topped the film’s performance with Rs 1.05 crore, followed by the Hindi version with Rs 20 lakh. The Tamil version collected Rs 10 lakh, while the Telugu version contributed Rs 5 lakh.
‘Supergirl’ goes up against ‘Welcome to the Jungle’
In India, ‘Supergirl’ faces stiff competition from ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead. The comedy entertainer has already created momentum through paid preview shows, collecting an estimated Rs 3.75 crore net (approximately Rs 4.50 crore gross) ahead of its official release. On its first day, the Hindi comedy collected an estimated Rs 15 crore net in 10,892 shows, taking the cumulative India net collection to Rs 18.75 crore and India gross to Rs 22.50 crore.Overseas, the film earned Rs 6.50 crore, pushing its worldwide gross to Rs 29 crore.

‘Supergirl’ also made a good start in North America, seeing an estimated USD 7.8 million from Thursday preview screenings at the US box office and earned USD 13 million worldwide on its opening day. As per Deadline, the film is currently tracking a collection of USD 40 million.

‘Supergirl’ follows Alcock’s character Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, who makes her cameo appearance in ‘Superman’ (2025). The film, which also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa, is the second theatrical release in the new DC Universe led by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
