On June 25, director Uwe Boll took to his X account (formerly known as Twitter) and shared the entire film on the platform. He revealed that the clip will remain live on his account for a full 48 hours, causing an uproar online. Not only that, but Boll’s project is also supported by Elon Musk, who owns the platform. Musk also shared the movie on his personal account, fully backing the controversial film.“Citizen Vigilante” is 1 hour and 28 minutes long.
‘Citizen Vigilante’ is banned in Germany
The film was never given a viewership rating in Germany, which resulted in the film being banned due to its controversial depiction of violence against immigrants. Addressing the matter in an interview with The Telegraph, the director weighed in and shared that they (the official board) refused to give the film a rating.He added at the time, “The rating system refused to give us a rating, so now you can only watch it if you bring a Blu-ray from Austria or Switzerland. And I think they did that on purpose. It was a deliberate decision to censor. I hired a lawyer to complain about it, but we lost by a six-to-two vote, as I was told that the film incites violence against the migrant.”In addition, talking about the project, Boll added, “I know that in America there is a lot of interest and response. In Europe at the moment, people avoid making this kind of violent political film, but I always try to smuggle politics into genre films. It’s not a documentary, it’s a thriller and I hope the audience responds to it.
