Nathan Smith was the standout performer, finishing with figures of 4/91 after making important runs throughout the match. Will O’Rourke and Zac Foulkes also played key roles taking three wickets each. Foulkes, who came into the match as a replacement for Blair Tickner on Friday, impressed with the ropes of Ben Stokes before dismissing Harry Brook for 58 and clipping his off-stump. O’Rourke dismissed Jacob Bethell after the left-back appeared to have made a good catch. Their combination allowed England to deny New Zealand their first chance. Instead, the visitors managed a lead of 84, very similar to the 100-run advantage they enjoyed at The Oval before winning the Test by 253 runs.
