Tata Motors is all set to launch the much-awaited Sierra EV in India tomorrow, June 30. The electric SUV will debut in a brand new avatar and will slot between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in the company’s growth in electric vehicles. Ahead of its debut, Tata released several teasers revealing key details about the SUV’s design, cabin, technology and performance.
Tata Sierra EV : Everything we know so far
One of the biggest highlights comes from the latest teaser, which hints at the Sierra EV’s driving range. The digital instrument cluster shows 424 km of remaining range with the battery charged to 80 percent. While Tata Motors is yet to announce the official figures, the display suggests that the SUV could offer a range of over 500 km on a full charge. The latest teaser also revealed the cabin in more detail. The Sierra EV features a modern dashboard layout and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata EV logo. Another interesting addition is a dedicated Boost Mode, which can be activated with a physical button on the center console. The function is intended to temporarily unlock maximum power and torque. The SUV also comes with several Terrain Modes. In one of the teaser videos filmed on the sand dunes of Tal Moreeb in Abu Dhabi, the driver’s display shows Sand Mode in operation, indicating that the Sierra EV has been developed to cope with different road conditions.Tata Motors has already confirmed that the Sierra EV will be offered with an all-wheel drive option. The higher variants are expected to configure the company’s Quad Wheel Drive dual-motor, first introduced on the Harrier EV, while the lower trims are likely to use a single electric motor that drives an axle.
Tata Sierra EV: Cabin and Features
The Sierra EV is expected to be loaded with premium features. The lower variants might get a dual-screen dashboard layout, while the top-spec versions are likely to feature a triple-screen setup similar to the recently unveiled ICE Sierra. Other expected equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.
Tata Sierra EV: Design
On the outside, the Sierra EV retains the distinctive silhouette as its ICE iteration, but receives several EV-specific styling cues. These include an enclosed front fascia with a body-colored panel, connected LED DRLs, vertically stacked LED fog lamps, recessed door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.
Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain
The Sierra EV is likely to be offered with several battery options, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units, while higher variants could also borrow the larger 75 kWh battery pack from the Harrier EV. Fast charging capability is also expected to be part of the package, allowing the battery to be recharged in significantly less time using DC fast chargers.Tata Motors is also expected to extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, giving customers the option to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery through a subscription-based ownership model, thereby reducing the initial purchase cost.Once launched, it will compete with rivals such as Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara in India’s fast-growing electric SUV segment.
