Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is about to make history. If India give him his debut in the first T20I against Ireland in Belfast on Friday, the 15-year-old will become the youngest player to represent India in an international game, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record.Sooryavanshi will be 15 years and 91 days old if he takes the field. Tendulkar was 16 years and 205 days old when he played the international against Pakistan in 1989. The youngster has earned his chance after a strong run in the last few months. He was the top scorer in IPL 2026, making 776 runs in 16 innings for Rajasthan Royals at a rate of 237.30.A few days ago, while playing India A against Sri Lanka A, he broke the record for the fastest run in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls.As anticipation builds for its debut, Sooryavanshi continues to garner attention across the globe. His rise has already drawn comparisons with some of India’s most talented players, and his selection could be another landmark in Indian cricket.His debut also ends the longest wait for a cricketer in the Indian team. The last youngster to make his international debut for India was Prithvi Shaw in 2018.Shaw made his international debut against the West Indies on October 4, 2018, in the first Test of the series and scored a century in that match. He became the last Indian batsman to score a hundred in a Test match.Since then, no youngster has represented India at an international level. Shaw played five Test matches for India before losing his place in the side.If selected against Ireland, Sooryavanshi will not only break Tendulkar’s record but also become the first youngster to play for India in this decade.
