Veteran actor Bindu: opened up about his memories later Parveen Babirecalls the struggles of the actress following her nervous breakdown and its impact on her personal and professional life.In a recent conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Bindu recalled meeting Parveen during a difficult phase and shared how the actress was always mentioned. “He’s just talking about her”
When asked if Parveen Babi likes Amitabh Bachchan, Bindu admitted that she did not know the nature of their relationship but remembered that she met the actress after she suffered a nervous breakdown.“I didn’t know him, but later when he had a nervous breakdown, I met him at a party and he was only talking about him. I felt that he said something. He said a lot about him,” said Bindu.The veteran actor added that Parveen often makes unusual comments about many people around her.“He also said a lot about us. I understood what he said. My husband and I were together and I told him not to ask too many questions. It was nerve-wracking. He must have loved her, we didn’t know. That’s what I heard later,” she said.Bindu clarified that she has not worked well with Parveen and therefore cannot comment further on the actress’ personal feelings.“I don’t have many films with Parveen Babi. So, I don’t know anything about it.”
‘It’s a very sad thing about him’
Recalling the time when Parveen’s health started affecting her work, Bindu describes an incident that took place during the shooting of Jwalamukhi.“What a horrible death it was. It was so sad. It happened in front of me. Initially, we were playing Jwalamukhi. Shatru. Yes, Shatru. We cast Reena after Shatru. So, Parveen played her,” he recalled.According to Bindu, the team was scheduled to shoot from 2 pm to 10 pm and the rehearsal was over before Parveen arrived on the set.“We have a shift from 2 to 10. We are preparing at 2. We are also rehearsing. We said, Parveen is coming. He came to the set. When he arrived, we stood up to take a shot. He has some dialogues. He could not speak. He said a line or two and then forgot. He didn’t listen. He was somewhere in a vision.”
The shoot was canceled after Parveen fell ill
Bindu said director Prakash Mehra immediately noticed something was wrong and decided to stop the shooting.“Prakash ji said, if you are not feeling well, we will pack and do it tomorrow. He said, yes, I think. I am not feeling well. That day, we wrapped up the shooting.”The actress revealed that the next day, the schedule had to be canceled.“Prakash ji said, let’s do it. I will call you tomorrow morning. We may have 2 more shifts. He said, okay. The next day, he called. He said, no, we have to cancel the schedule. He is not well. That’s where it started.”Bindu added that no one on the set understood the seriousness of the situation at that time.“We don’t know what happened. How bad it is. We don’t know.”
Parveen was eventually replaced by: Reena Roy:
As Parveen’s health deteriorated, production delays increased and the filmmakers eventually replaced her with Reena Roy.“After that, our schedule was very long. The break was very long. They replaced Parveen and took Reena. Then we shot the movie.”When asked if the segments had to be reshot, Bindu explained, “Actually, what happened to them, that we were not involved. All the reshots are Reena’s. Reena and I are shooting.”
“He’s answering, but he’s somewhere else”
Bindu also recalls another scary moment she shared with Parveen during a later shoot.“After that, I was shooting at night. Parveen and I shared a room. We talked to her. She answered, but she was in another place. She was looking for another place in the trance.”She remembers her hairdresser noticing the same thing.“My hair man was with me. He pointed at me and said, what’s going on? I was like, I don’t know. We don’t understand.”According to Bindu, Parveen appeared physically present but mentally distant.“He nodded, but he didn’t listen to me. He was somewhere else. Later that night, he got sick. After that, everything was over.”Looking back, Bindu describes Parveen Babi’s decline as one of the most heartbreaking experiences she has witnessed in the film industry.“That was a very sad thing about him,” he concluded.
