Talking about working with Akshay again, Saif described the superstar family and admitted that their latest collaboration explores a much darker space than their previous forays.
Saif is excited to see Akshay Kumar in a negative role
Over the years, Saif and Akshay shared a sizzling chemistry in films like ‘Yeh Dillagi’, ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ and ‘Tu Chor Main Sipahi’. However, ‘Haiwaan’ takes the actors away from comedy and puts them in an intense dramatic situation.Talking to Variety India about Akshay’s character, Saif said, “We are very lucky to have him play this part in the movie. It makes it more exciting because it is a sensitive, negative role, and I have not seen him do that often. I am very happy to see it.”Reflecting on a friendship that spanned more than three decades, Saif spoke passionately about the bond he shares with Akshay. According to the actor, their long association has created mutual respect and effortless chemistry, something that naturally translates on screen.Expressing his admiration, Saif shared, “I love Akshay. He said, ‘You are behaving like naughty children.’ Akshay said, ‘He brought that out of me.’ I told him, ‘You get that out of me.’ We have been talking trash since we met on set. If it’s just us, we’re quite mature. But together…”
‘Haiwaan’ leaves comedy behind
Fans have long associated the pair with their comic timing, but Saif made it clear that ‘Haiwaan’ deliberately avoids relying on a familiar dynamic. Instead, the film explores a darker relationship between the two characters. Explaining the shift, he said, “This film doesn’t rely on comedic chemistry, which is also good because I think it has time.” At the same time, Saif did not rule out another comedy with Akshay in the future. He added, “Who’s to say we won’t do it again if it’s written so well?”Summing up the tone of the film, the actor concluded, “It’s interesting that it’s a darker, more dramatic equation.
