Seven weeks after its release, the makers have officially announced the final Tamil Nadu box office collection of the film. According to the official announcement from Tamil Nadu distributor Sakthi Film Factory, ‘Karuppu’ grossed Rs 191 crore in the state, making it one of the highest grossing Tamil films in the region. The film showed remarkable consistency throughout its run, collecting Rs 60 crore in the first three days, Rs 100 crore within the opening week, Rs 150 crore in just 13 days, and Rs 175 crore on the 20th day. It has now added another Rs 16 crore to close the Tamil Nadu theatrical business at Rs 191 crore, failing to reach the 200 crore mark, which would have been the first for a Suriya film.
Strong word of mouth fueled the film’s long box office run
Released on May 15, ‘Karuppu’ was well received by the audience and family fans, making it a long run in theatres. However, despite its release on the OTT platform on June 12, ‘Karuppu’ has managed to attract viewers in a handful of theatres. It was a result of good reviews, repeat viewings, and high box office earnings for the week.
