'Not better than Rs 370 biryani'. Netizens criticized Samay Raina for the 'kandha dega tabhi woh...' comment. 'Vasoolunga toh sahi'

Comedian Samay Raina is back with the second season of ‘India’s Got Latent’, with the first episode showing Alia Bhatt: and Sharvari as celebrity guests. While the show’s return has generated excitement, an old clip from one of its 2024 episodes has resurfaced online, sparking fresh criticism. The viral video has once again sparked conversations about misogyny, consent and the kind of humor that has become normalised, especially after the recent Rs 370 biryani controversy that dominated social media earlier this month. In the resurfaced clip, a woman who attended the show with her boyfriend suddenly got up and left in the middle. Curious, Samay asked what happened. The man replied that he had to hurry home because his father had a small heart attack. Surprised by the boyfriend’s calm reaction, Samay asked why he did not accompany him to investigate the situation. He then joked, “Abhi jaake rota na jaake, bhai kandha dega tabhi woh head degi (Go cry for him. Give him your shoulder, and he’ll give you a head),” drew laughter from the audience. The clip has now gone viral, with many social media users criticizing the remark. An X user wrote, “Kandha dega tabhi toh head degi”- Samey Raina to a man in the audience when his girlfriend left crying because her dad had a heart attack. There is nothing better than “370 rupai diye hain biryani ke liye vasoolunga toh sahi” Yes comedy is not the biggest problem in our country, but such casual f*ck boy, locker room language has become mainstream and also contributes to crimes and violence against women. Men can get away with this type of language/crime because other men join in and applaud when women are told such things. So don’t @ me in your gyaan.”Another user commented, “Rights are not measured by what you give…If: it’s a dinner bill or a shoulder to cry on, nor do you earn a man’s body. Nowadays people use comedy as a laundry for rotten ideas…Sigh.”A third wrote, “Samay lovers are misogynists, it doesn’t matter if they are men or women, they are all misogynists, I hope they face the misogyny they mock, I don’t feel sorry for you.”Another post read, “I feel so bad defending this guy when this whole drama is happening. he really doesn’t deserve a platform, especially a platform that you have to pay to watch this crap on. He could have easily called his character but he turned it into a joke with a few giggles.”For those who don’t know, the ₹370 biryani controversy erupted after a clip from comedian Pranit More’s show went viral. During the show, 23-year-old Himanshu Jangra admitted that since he spent ₹370 on chicken biryani during a date, he deserves a “return” on that investment. The comment received widespread backlash, after which Himanshu apologized and deactivated his social media accounts.Pranit More also issued a public apology, explaining that the audience member’s statement did not represent his personal views. He said, “comments made by audience members do not reflect my views”.
