Instead, holidays during the month will depend on regional festivals, state-specific celebrations and administrative notifications issued by state governments.

State school holidays in July 2026

Several states are expected to have a holiday in July with local festivals and observances.July 16: Rath Yatra and HarelaSchools in states celebrating Rath Yatra may remain closed on July 16, 2026. The festival is common in parts of Odisha, Manipur and West Bengal, but not every government or private school makes it mandatory.The same day is also the traditional festival of Harela celebrated in parts of Himachal Pradesh, where schools may remain closed as per a state notification.July 29: Master Full Moon DayGuru Purnima falls on July 29, 2026 and can be celebrated through school holidays or events in many states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.There may also be schools that choose to hold cultural activities, prayers and thank teachers instead of celebrating the holiday.July 31: Shahid Udham Singh Martyrdom DaySchools in Punjab, Haryana and certain adjoining districts are expected to remain closed on July 31, 2026 to commemorate the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh. The commemoration commemorates the contribution of the freedom fighter to the Indian independence movement.Every Sunday and holidaysSchools across the country will remain closed on all Sundays this month, in addition to holiday-related closures.
