Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim believes it is too soon to see 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as a successor Sanju Samson in the Indian T20I team. He agreed with Samson’s recent actions and said the youngster should be allowed to grow without being compared.Sooryavanshi has traveled with the Indian team for the T20Is against Ireland and England but is yet to make an international appearance. India will instead continue to bring back the top three of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, all of whom played a key role in India’s 2026 T20 World Cup win. When asked if Sooryavanshi would replace Samson in the playing XI, Karim rejected the idea.“I don’t think so at the moment. Sanju Samson is a great player. He has been a match winner. He had the best IPL season. Before that, he was the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup. What are we looking for? Sanju Samson must be thinking, ‘Why is everyone pointing a gun at me?’” Karim said on Star Sports, as reported by News18.Karim also said that having the Indian team without getting a match at the same time would benefit Sooryavanshi.“Even for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, this is a good way to learn. He also understands that to get into the Indian XI team, you have to get your call. This environment will help him grow as a player and as a person. Although he has amazing skills, when you enter such a tournament, you have to increase your time,” he said.Sooryavanshi has become one of the most talked about players after IPL 2026, where he scored 776 runs for Rajasthan Royals at a rate of 237.30 and was named Player of the Tournament.India did not give him a debut for Ireland, where they lost 2-0.Despite this, Karim believes that the young man’s time will come.“I have full faith in his ability to get big games. Not only Indian fans but the whole world is waiting to see Vaibhav Sooryavanshi playing as he did in IPL. I have high hopes for this guy. Soon, we will see him in all three forms. I am sure about it,” Karim said on JioStar, as quoted by the news agency IANS.India and England will play the second T20I on Saturday.
