Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan looked back at one of the busiest phases of his extraordinary career, remembering how he often moved from one film set to another without rest. The legendary actor revealed that he often works on several films simultaneously. He explained that the tight schedule was due to his fear of losing acting opportunities if he turned down projects.Sharing a heartfelt note on his personal blog, Amitabh opened up about how filmmaking has evolved over the decades. He observed that today’s actors spend a lot of time preparing for their roles. In his early years, however, such extensive preparation was rarely possible as performers were often juggling multiple films.
Amitabh Bachchan praised the preparation process today
Talking about the difference between then and now, Amitabh expressed admiration for the commitment shown by modern actors. He acknowledges the effort that performers now invest in understanding their characters before shooting begins.He wrote, “.. prep is a word or an explanation unknown to my generation and beyond .. now ‘it’ is a common vocabulary, where one prepares for the work to be done .. for me it is an unknown entity .. I see now the amount of labor and pain, the creative artists put in to enter the character, the look and style and comprehensive analysis of the character .. than required serious consideration and preparation for the work being done..”According to the actor, he has a lot of respect for the dedication shown by the performers today. He believes the process has become more elaborate than during his generation.
Big B recalls balancing several films in a day
Amitabh also recalls how difficult it was to switch between completely different characters within hours. According to him, actors in his time often worked on up to 10 to 15 films simultaneously, which made painstaking preparation almost impossible.He further wrote, “Good and impressive.. But on good days when we all work on 10 to 15 films at the same time – many two or three on the same day, it’s impossible to prepare for one and then un-prep for another… ON THE SAME DAY!!USUALLY THE DIRECTOR OR THE ACCLAIMER ASSISTANT EXPLAINS THE SCENE, WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE STUDIO OR LOCATION…Many have asked how you can slip from one role to another in the course of a day for different films… (sic)”
The fear of losing his job is holding him back
Amitabh also explained why he willingly accepted such a tiring routine. He admits that uncertainty about the future drives him to keep saying yes every time.His words read (English version), “If I haven’t accepted all the jobs, I always worry about whether I will get opportunities in the future. So I adapt myself to whatever each role demands. Months later, when the movies were released, I would watch them with curiosity to see what I had done. There are so many more such memories… maybe I’ll share them another time.
