New Delhi: India Bowling coach Morne Morkel He has insisted that the team officials will continue to bring back openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek SharmaDespite his growing age he is calling 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to create the world.Sooryavanshi has been one of the biggest talking points ever since he was selected for India’s T20I squads against Ireland and England following his impressive IPL season. While Abhishek scored 50 and 49 in his last three innings on the UK tour, Samson struggled, managing scores of 5, 0 and 1.Despite this, Morkel said the team believes in showing faith in the players who have already contributed to India.“I think we just need to respect that we have a number one, or we had our first number in T20 cricket, Abhishek Sharma. You know, Sanju was a World Cup player,” Morkel said on the eve of the second T20I against England.“He (Samson) had a great IPL. So, I think that as a coach, it is necessary to show faith and restore your players. Yes, there is another boy who is knocking on the door and it is exciting. But I think that not only the two players at the top, but for the whole team, it is a good sign that we show that we are returning you guys,” he said.
‘We don’t want to chase players out of position’
Morkel said picking the playing XI is not just about bringing in a new player. He stressed that the coaches also want to avoid changing the players who are attacking.“On one day, it’s got to put a show on the team. That’s the key. But we don’t want to think too hard and take other players out of the game. So, I think it’s not straight, OK, let’s play (Sooryavanshi).“It’s a matter of supporting some of the guys who have won the World Cup, who have done well for you in difficult situations, and from there, build and see how we can build and make our top team as good as we can in these conditions,” he said.
‘When he gets the chance, he’ll be ready’
While Morkel did not reveal when Sooryavanshi would make his India debut, he praised the youngster for settling in the dressing room quickly. He said that the young man has impressed everyone during the training even though he is only 15 years old.“I think he is very full, very well. You know, I think that if you follow the guys on Instagram, there are a lot of pictures that are posted, with him in particular. On the network as a 15-year-old child on the international stage, it can be dangerous.“But, I think the couple of networks that we’ve had, it’s been really fun. And, you know, we’re all excited to see how it goes. When he gets the chance, I’m sure he’ll be ready. But in terms of coming into the team and getting in, it’s been good,” he said.
Morkel praises Prince Yadav
The former South African fast bowler was also vocal in praising Prince Yadav, who has taken six wickets in his first three international matches.Morkel revealed that he had worked with Prince during his time with Lucknow Super Giants and had seen his talent even then.“I had the opportunity to work with Prince when I was with Lucknow Super Giants. At that time Prince was a net bowler and he was already known as a very talented player. I really like the way he keeps things.“I think he is also a guy who is always looking for ways to improve his game. But at the end of the day, it’s about the execution. If we are talking about the death of bowling and the central part, how he calculates the game, what decisions he makes under pressure and make it, for me, it is interesting to see,” he said.
Harshit Rana is impressed after getting injured
Morkel also praised fast bowler Harshit Rana, saying it was encouraging to see the bowler so strong after returning from injury. With the second T20I against England to be played at Old Trafford, the Indian team management seems ready to continue supporting its experienced players, while keeping an eye on exciting youngsters like Sooryavanshi for future opportunities.
