Former world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik has been banned for two years by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) after the Ethics & Disciplinary Commission found him to have breached a number of player conduct rules and civil offences. The case focused on a series of comments and social media articles Kramnik wrote about Czech grandfather David Navara, Daniel Naroditsky, and other players. Instead, it looked at how the predictions were made public and how they affected the chess community. Some of Kramnik’s claims, including allegations of dishonesty and defamation of FIDE’s reputation, were dismissed due to insufficient evidence.Kramnik received a two-year international ban from FIDE events and major chess titles. However, the last year of the suspension is suspended for three years of probation, meaning he will serve a one-year suspension if there are no further violations. He was also ordered to complete 12 months of unpaid work for the benefit of the chess club.
