The ongoing monsoon in Mumbai has forced Mumbai University to suspend its examination schedule, with the authorities postponing all undergraduate and postgraduate examinations scheduled to be held on July 6, 2026. Heavy rainfall, widespread flooding and traffic disruptions paralyzed much of the city. This decision follows India Meteorological DepartmentThe International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne has issued a weather advisory for severe weather in the Mumbai metropolitan area. With roads flooded and public transport services severely affected, the university said the safety of students and staff must not be compromised.

University suspends exam arrangements for July 6

Mumbai University in an official notification announced that all undergraduate and postgraduate examinations scheduled to be held on July 6 have been postponed until further notice.The university attributed the decision to persistent heavy downpours that triggered severe waterlogging in several parts of the city, making travel to exam centers unsafe. It directed candidates not to report to their respective centers on the scheduled dates.The postponement comes as Mumbai continues to grapple with annual monsoon challenges, with incessant rains disrupting normal life and affecting road and rail connectivity.

Student safety is considered a top priority

The university said the reason for the postponement was the prevailing weather conditions and the IMD advisory which stated that heavy rainfall would continue in the area.With thousands of students relying on suburban trains, buses and road transport to reach exam sites, officials believe holding exams in worsening weather conditions will expose candidates and staff to avoidable risks.

New exam timetable will be released soon

While postponing the exams, the university clarified that the question papers have not been cancelled. The revised timetable for all examinations scheduled to be held on July 6 will be announced soon through the official website of the university.The school said in the notice: “The new examination schedule will be announced on the official website of the University of Mumbai in the near future. Students are requested to check the notice on the school website frequently.”Students are advised to monitor the university portal regularly for further announcements regarding the revised examination timetable.

Existing hall tickets remain valid

To prevent any confusion regarding the rescheduled exams, the university has ensured that candidates will not be asked to obtain new admit cards.Students are advised to keep their tickets, which will remain valid for postponed exams. The university also said that candidates should refer to the updates released by the official website of the university.
