After much anticipation and a delay that felt longer than it was, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finally made his India debut on Saturday, becoming the youngest player to represent the world cricket when he entered the second T20I against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.The 15-year-old received his India cap from Tilak Varma ahead of the event and was all smiles as he prepared for his international debut.With his debut, Sooryavanshi broke the previous record held by batting great Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut for India against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days.Indian captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed the player’s inclusion, while Sooryavanshi replaced Sanju Samson in the playing XI.“We will bat again. We have one change. Vaibhav will come in for Sanju,” Indian captain Shreyas Iyer said while tossing.Iyer said Sooryavanshi got a chance and praised the youngster’s approach.“I feel he deserves to be in the team. He is someone who never gets under pressure. He has a steadfast nature. He knows exactly what is going to happen in the upcoming matches. The way he hits the nets and takes the bowlers, it shows what kind of player he is,” Iyer added.Sooryavanshi was forced to go international after his performance in IPL 2026. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, he ended up being the highest scorer in the tournament with 776 runs at a total of 230. He also won the Valuable Player and Emerging Player awards.
