India opener Abhishek Sharma celebrated a milestone in the second T20I against England when he made his 50th T20I appearance at Old Trafford in Manchester. Ever since he made his T20I debut in 2024, Abhishek has established himself as a key member of India’s T20I setup. In his first 50 T20Is, the left-hander has scored 1,546 runs in 48 innings at an impressive average of 33.60 and a high strike rate of 193.25. His results include two centuries and 11 half-centuries, where he smashed 152 fours and 102 sixes.
100 six for Abhishek
Abhishek Sharma recently became the fastest player in T20I (International) history to hit 100 sixes, achieving this feat in just 785 balls. In the first T20I against England at Durham, his 59-run knock off 24 balls became the world’s oldest knock.Abhishek’s big event came on a historic day for Indian cricket, when 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his international debut becoming the youngest player ever to play in a men’s T20I. After winning the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer elected to bat first, with Abhishek opening the innings along with opener Sooryavanshi.Commenting on India’s depth during the missed period, Iyer said the fierce competition for places is a good sign for Indian cricket and believes that “pressure is an opportunity”, as it makes the players perform better.”It’s game and game like the amount of talent that India has produced in the last few months and years. I think it’s visually pleasing and keeps us mostly on our toes and the rest of the series. Because pressure is privilege, I feel. And if you perform under pressure, you also get good,” Shreyas during the toss.
