NEW DELHI: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-president Rajiv Shukla has defended the decision after a young actor named Vaibhav Sooryavanshi began to appear in India, saying that the organization was giving opportunities only for its own good.Shukla refuted social media claims that Sooryavanshi was being unfairly overlooked and said that he has always believed that the boy will get his chance at the right time.“Congratulations to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his initiative and for getting this opportunity. BCCI does not treat anyone unfairly; those who deserve their opportunity. There was a lot of uproar on social media saying that the opportunity was not given; people were criticizing the coach and the pilot. But it wasn’t like that,” Shukla told ANI.He added that he is confident that Sooryavanshi will make good use of this opportunity.“I had just said the other day that when the time is right, he will get his chance, and yesterday, he did. I believe that he will do well in the future and come on his own. It is a very good decision of the team management, and we must thank him,” he said.
India’s youngest international
Sooryavanshi made history when he was named in India’s playing XI for the second T20I match against England in Manchester.At the age of 15 years and 99 days, the Bihar batsman became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket in all formats. He also became the youngest player in a Test playing country to make his T20I debut.The left-handed opener made an impressive start to his international career, scoring 14 off 10 balls with two sixes before being stumped by Will Jacks.In doing so, he surpassed the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar and Piyush Chawla as India’s all-time cricketers.
