The release of: Vijay:The film of ‘Jana Nayagan’ has entered another important phase after the latest updates on its censor certification and theatrical release plans. The highly anticipated film has been in the spotlight for months due to delays. Latest reports suggest that the makers are currently juggling multiple demands before locking in the final release date. The film’s release strategy has become more complicated with the censorship process and talks involving distributors and streaming partners.
CBFC proposes changes to certify ‘Jana Nayagan’
As reported by Filmibeat, the: Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave ‘Jana Nayagan’ an ‘A’ certificate due to violence, political content, and religious references. A CBFC panel consisting of a few members and a review officer, reportedly recommended some edits, muted some dialogues, and sought changes in a name of the character played by Priyamani, as it reportedly corresponds to a real government official. The report further states that the makers are expected to make the necessary changes before reapplying under Rule 33. It is also claimed that the final version will include the title card “The Honorable Chief Minister” along with Vijay’s name, apart from minor changes in the songs and farewell audio launch clips in the end credits.
The OTT platform and distributors will differ on the release date
The report also claimed that discussions are on regarding the film’s theatrical release date. While distributors favored a July 24 release to avoid a clash with Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and to allow more time for promotions and theatrical scheduling, the film’s OTT partner is reportedly pushing for a July 16 theatrical release. The reason is said to be the platform’s plan to premiere the film during the August 15 Independence Day weekend after completing its theatrical window. The producer is expected to make the final call after considering both sides.
Vijay’s farewell film
‘Jana Nayagan’ was directed by H. Vinoth and was announced to be Vijay’s last film, as he shifted his full attention to politics.
