The makers have officially announced the film’s digital platform. ‘Karakkam’ will stream on Sony LIV in July 2026. Sharing the update, Sony LIV wrote, “Get ready for a genre-bending ride. panic. Comedy. Music. All in one. #Karakkam will be streaming this July, only on Sony LIV.”
A story that begins with a careless mistake
The film follows Dhanush, played by Sreenath Bhasi, and his friend Khaja, portrayed by Praveen TJ. The couple landed in serious trouble after a drunken argument at their hostel. Their mistake leads them to a cemetery, where they remove the crosses from five graves without understanding the consequences.Their reckless act awakens five spirits, and as the ghosts begin to chase them, the two youths struggle to escape the nightmare while dealing with fear, humor and a series of unexpected situations.Director Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian has attempted to offer a new spin on the horror-comedy genre through Karakkam.

ETimes’ exclusive review says, “One of the most interesting aspects of Karakkam is the way it presents ghosts. These are not the usual Malayalam cinema ghosts that dress in white, silently appear in dark corners or move in the frame in a predictable manner. Here, the ghosts belong to an earlier era, and they are imagined through a more colorful, performative style. Because they are connected to the past world of bar dancers, rock-star energy, music, and performance, their costumes and body language reflect that as well. The disco-like dressing, dancing, and exaggerated stage presence gave the supernatural parts a new visual identity. This makes the film feel different from the standard horror-comedy template, even if the writing around it isn’t quite as inventive.The cast has Sreenath Bhasi in the role of Dhanush and Femina George as Pinki. Praveen TJ, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Shaun Romy, Manikandan R. Achari and Sidharth Bharathan also play important characters.
