Singer: Sumit Kumar recently revisited some of his fondest childhood memories while appearing on the music reality show Indian Idol. The son of the legendary playback singer Kishore Kumar became nostalgic after contestant Manraj performed the classic song Eena Meena Deeka. The show reminded him of countless stage shows where he watched his father entertain the audience with endless hits.During the episode, Sumit also shared an inspiring anecdote involving his father and elder brother. Talking about the show, Sumit revealed that “Eena Meena Deeka” always reminded him of his growing up years. He said the song was a regular part of Kishore Kumar’s live concerts and immediately took him back to those special moments.Sharing the memory, Sumit said, “My memory of this song, Bachpan mein Bhaiya aur Baba both used to perform this song on stage. So this song, I remember back then. gaya ki Bhaiya haar gaye. This song, especially ‘Eena Meena Deeka’, Baba always performed this song in all his stage performances. Aapne bohot accha gaaya hai, maza aa gaya.” (“This song brings back many memories of my childhood. When I was a child, my elder brother and my father used to perform this song on stage, so every time I hear it, I remember those days. There is another song, ‘Ek Chatur Naar.’ It was not planned, but during the last jugalbandi, my father would climb on my brother’s shoulders. I was always by my brother’s side and could not accept that he ‘lost.’ So I run to the stage and climb on top of them both. ‘Eena Meena Deeka’ is a song that my father performed in almost every stage show. You sing beautifully. I really enjoyed listening to it.”)

Sumit’s memory also includes a lovely behind-the-scenes moment involving another iconic song, ‘Ek Chatur Naar’. According to him, Kishore Kumar sometimes climbs on his elder’s shoulders during the final jugalbandi of the show. As a child, Sumit admits that he could not bear to see his brother “lose” in a competitive game. He rushes onto the stage and climbs on top of them both, creating an unscripted family moment that delights the audience.
