Former England captain Michael Vaughan has begun to fight with the leadership of England, it needs a head coach Brendon McCullum and director of cricket Rob Key to step down Ben Stokes he brought the canvas to his international career.Stokes, 35, announced his retirement from international cricket and stepped down as England captain following the 160-run defeat by New Zealand in the third Test at Trent Bridge on Sunday. The result resulted in a 2-1 defeat and extended England’s offensive advantage in the longest series.England have now won just two wickets in their last 10 Test matches, a streak that includes defeats to Australia and New Zealand, as well as a home game against India.Based on the team’s recent performance, Vaughan said he had reached a point where he could no longer accept England’s demands.“When I saw that on the fourth evening last week, I went ‘nah, we can’t accept him as a veteran of the game,'” Vaughan said on the Stick to Cricket podcast.“And it was at that point that I looked and I went ‘nah, enough is enough’. English cricket has got to be better than that.”Vaughan believes it is time for a change at the top, questioning whether McCullum is the right man to lead England forward despite his popularity.“I think Baz McCullum is a great guy, but he’s not a great coach and in England, as former players and fans of English cricket, we have to aim to be the number one team in the world and at the moment we’re number seven.“We have won two games out of 10 games, and the two we won were at Lord’s at the cesspit and at the MCG which lasted two days, so the only two games we won were at the farmers’ fields.“It can’t be right.”The former player of the team said that the English players should do better and insisted that what the team has done so far is unacceptable.“I want to change. I’ve seen enough. I care a lot about English cricket and I hate watching it and you can’t tell me that 20-odd thousand don’t think so,” said Vaughan.“When you have critics in your backyard laughing at you, enough is enough. We have to move on.”Vaughan also questioned the future of Rob Key, who has been in charge of England cricket since taking over. Ashley Giles as general manager in 2022. Key appointed McCullum as Test coach after that year before expanding his responsibilities across all three internationals in September 2024.According to Vaughan, England’s problems are not limited to Test Cricket, as the team’s white ball has also declined to its current status.“I’m really upset to see it, it’s funny,” Vaughan said. “You have to say Rob Key’s job is on the line. It has to be on the line. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Rob Key went.“They’re not being coached properly.
