As Enola follows, she tracks down a soldier Sherlock met the night before he disappeared. Before he could get information from him, he was shot. With his dying breath, the soldier uttered a word that Enola initially thought was “Wrath” but later realized it could be “Rathe.”Just one day later, Lord Tewkesbury’s mother, Lady Tewkesbury, was also kidnapped. The kidnapper sets fire to the hotel, potentially destroying evidence. Despite the destruction, Enola discovers a war medal and reunites with Mikiel Mizzi who suggests that Professor Adeline Rathe may be the culprit.Enola returns to Malta and finds a woman wearing the same lace from Sherlock’s hotel room. While he was chasing the girl he was shocked to know the truth. Professor Rathe is actually Moriarty’s former nemesis from the second film who once managed to escape from police custody.
Moriarty’s escape and motive
Moriarty, also known as Mira Troy, acted as the criminal mastermind in the second film ‘Enola Holmes’. After Sherlock and Enola successfully captured him, he unexpectedly escaped from police custody. It was later revealed that Moriarty had made deals with corrupt officers, one of whom was the soldier Enola encountered. When Enola confronted Moriarty the villain kept Sherlock and Lady Tewkesbury imprisoned in a cell. Moriarty states his motives are twofold. takes revenge against the Holmes family while also showing frustration at what he considers the family’s hypocritical and “corrupt” actions. However, Enola and Sherlock understand that there is more to the story than simple revenge.

The real conspiracy involving gold in Afghanistan
Through their investigation Enola and Lord Tewkesbury discover that a battle medal found in the fire matches one that belonged to Tewkesbury’s godfather. Upon meeting the godfather they learn a shocking truth. British soldiers stole gold in Afghanistan during the Battle of Khost. To hide their crime, these soldiers deliberately sank a Maltese ship and falsely claimed that the gold came from that ship. This revelation leads Enola to understand that Moriarty’s two missions include uncovering the Tewkesbury family’s darkest secrets and finding the stolen gold for herself. Enola realizes she has fallen into Moriarty’s carefully crafted traps, with the villain orchestrating events to ensure the truth is discovered.Based on previous conversations with Lord Tewkesbury about the treasure hidden in the Maltese cliffs, Enola decided that the gold must be hidden there. He heads to the cliff location and finds Moriarty in a dungeon with Sherlock and Lady Tewkesbury. After an intense confrontation, Enola and her allies overpowered Moriarty and captured him.
Gold resolution and family scandal
Even with Moriarty’s arrest, the Holmes family’s work remains unfinished. Lord Tewkesbury made a bold decision to return the gold to Afghanistan and hand over everyone involved in the theft conspiracy including his own godfather. This decision shows his commitment to justice despite the personal cost to his family’s reputation and standing.
