July 6 will be observed as a public holiday across West Bengal to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, according to a finance ministry notification issued on Thursday.The notice described Mukherjee as “one of the most illustrious sons of this state”, highlighting the government’s decision to honor him with a full public holiday. As a result, state government agencies covered by the notice will remain closed that day.

The July 6 holiday will be applicable to numerous institutions functioning under the West Bengal government.These include:

A half-day holiday is announced for Doctors’ Day on July 1st
In a separate memorandum, the state government also announced a half-day holiday on July 1 to celebrate Doctors’ Day, which is celebrated annually in memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, former chief minister of West Bengal and one of India’s most respected doctors.According to the order, all eligible government offices and institutions will remain open during the first half of the day and close from 2 p.m.The memorandum states that like every year, the state will officially celebrate the occasion as Doctors’ Day.
