Playback singer: Vaikom Vijayalakshmi won the Best Female Playback Singer award at the 72nd National Film Awards. He received recognition for his singing in ‘Angu Vaana Konilu’ from Tovino Thomas starrer ‘ARM’. Dhibu Ninan Thomas composed the music, and Manu Manjith penned the lyrics. Soon after the announcement, Vijayalakshmi shared her happiness and opened up about her personal connection with the song.He told Maathrubhumi, “The very song that inspired me won me the National Award. I am so happy.”The singer explained that the lyrics have always encouraged him to overcome life’s challenges and helped him move forward with confidence. He added, “The lyrics ‘Uyarnnu Vaa… Uyarnnu Vaa… Break every barrier and rise… Beside the world and rise…’ have always filled me with the strength to carry on. I, too, have overcome countless obstacles to reach where I am today.”
Vaikom Vijayalakshmi expressed gratitude
After her National Award win, Vijayalakshmi offered prayers of thanksgiving and thanked Vaikathappan, Adi Parashakti, and her family’s presiding deity for blessing her with success. The singer described the recognition as a memorable milestone in his musical journey. He also credited composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas for composing the award-winning song.He said, “I love this song. But for me, nothing beats ‘Kaatte Kaatte…’, the song from Celluloid that gave me my first opportunity in cinema. I also hope to work with maestro Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman in the future.”
Mammootty’s win made the moment even more special
Besides celebrating her own success, Vijayalakshmi expressed happiness over Mammootty receiving the Best Actor award at the National Film Awards for ‘Bramayugam’.He said that the achievements of the two actors from Vaikom made the occasion more memorable and revealed that he tried to contact the veteran actor after the announcement.Sharing his excitement, he said, “I am happy to know that Mammookka (Mammootty) has also won the National Award for Best Actor. It made me think of the pride of two people from Vaikom who received the national award. I tried to call him, but couldn’t get through. I want to share my happiness with him and congratulate him.”Apart from his achievements as a playback singer, he is also known for his skill in playing the amazing Gayathri Veena. Throughout his career, he has recorded more than 200 songs across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, and Sanskrit.
