Archana Puran SinghIts first outing on television, Mr Ya Mrs, aired on Doordarshan in 1987 and turned out to be surprisingly prophetic. Directed by Jalal Agha, the show centers around a working woman who is married to a house husband, played by Jayant Kripalani. Just a year ago, Archana met the actor Parmeet Sethi:whom he married in 1992. In the early years of their marriage, while Parmeet was still trying to establish himself in the industry, Archana became the main breadwinner of the family—just like the character she portrays in the series.She also revealed that one of her real life situations before agreeing to marry Parmeet finally found it in her directorial debut, Badmaash Company, which hit theaters in 2010, almost two decades after their marriage. The film stars: Shahid Kapoor and: Anushka Sharma to lead.He said in an interview to Screen, “Parmeet wrote Badmaash Company. When Shahid proposed to Anushka, he gave the same line, ‘I will never walk into the kitchen without a wet towel on the bed.’ That was my line,” Archana revealed. “I still don’t go to the kitchen,” he added, with his signature guffaw intact.Her refusal to cook has always been a recurring theme in the family vlogs she shares with Parmeet and their sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan Sethi.Although she is now widely regarded as one of the most recognizable comic faces on television, Archana recalls how difficult her first day of shooting comedy was while working on Mr Ya Mrs in 1987.“My first shot on my first day was to wake up a kadhai. Jalal asked me to make it funny. Now, I can find a hundred ways to make it funny, like the back of my hand. At that time, I didn’t know,” he confessed.In trying to deliver the scene, he relied on exaggerated expressions, believing that was what comedy demanded. However, director Jalal Agha quickly corrected his approach.“I made some faces because that’s what I thought comedy was. Jalal said, ‘Cut! Comedy is not about making faces, Archie!’ I feel so sick. He flirted with me. And whatever little I could do, I couldn’t do anymore,” he recounted. “That sentence stuck with me. I learned comedy on the job. Every day on set, I realized what makes something funny and not funny. And I keep learning. But my first day was very bad,” he admitted.Despite starting her career with comic roles, Archana says that such opportunities gradually disappeared after she became a permanent fixture in Kapil SharmaHis comedy shows include Comedy Nights with Kapil, The Kapil Sharma Show, and more recently The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix India, where he has appeared alongside Navjot Singh Sidhu. As audiences flocked to join him for his infectious humor and fun banter on the show, he found film and television offers becoming scarce, even after memorable performances in successful films like Rohit Shetty’s 2012 entertainer Bol Bachchan.This year, however, marks a new chapter in his acting career. After impressing audiences as the unpredictable main antagonist of: Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra’s black comedy thriller Toaster on Netflix India, Archana is set to return in a completely different avatar. He will next portray a domineering and manipulative government official in Biswapati Sarkar’s campus comedy series Adarsh ​​​​​​Baal Vidyalaya, which aired on Prime Video India on July 24.
