New Delhi: Wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson has been left out of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming three matches against Zimbabwe due to poor performances. The selectors announced a 15-man squad for the tour, with Shreyas Iyer named captain. Young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is making his international debut, has retained his place in the team. Rajasthan fast bowler Ashok Sharma has also received his call-up to the Indian senior team. The all-rounder had already been named in the India A team for three matches in Sri Lanka.
Poor travel costs Samson his place
Samson has struggled to get runs in recent games. He was dropped from India’s playing XI for the second T20I against England after scoring just one off seven balls in the opening match. Before that, he also had a disappointing series against Ireland, where he scored 0 and 5 in two T20Is.His absence from the Zimbabwe team comes after a low number of wickets despite being one of India’s most important players in the shortest format. The exception is a huge comeback for Samson, who played a key role in India’s recent T20 World Cup campaign. His consistent performance during the tournament earned him the Player of the Tournament award.
Ashok Sharma was invited to India
Fast bowler Ashok Sharma has been rewarded for his sensational performance with a maiden call-up to India’s senior T20I squad. The Rajasthan pacer was also recently included in the India A team for the tri-series in Sri Lanka and will now get a chance to make the international debut.
