‘Satluj’ is facing a fresh backlash amid the ongoing controversy, as the film has been pulled from OTT platforms worldwide. According to the latest reports shared online, the movie was released without clearing the certification process under the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), and is now being reviewed by the Inter-Departmental Committee.
Center to hold off the release of ‘Satluj’ till further notice
Despite the ongoing public criticism, the center has put a hold on the release of ‘Satluj’ for now. Mid Day reported that the Inter-Departmental Committee is currently reviewing the film under its Information Technology Rules. It will remain on OTT platforms worldwide until the committee announces the final verdict in its review.A statement from the report read, “The idea is to maintain a uniform position globally while the process continues given the sensitivity of the story. This is not a permanent decision. All await the committee’s observations before deciding on the next course of action. “
The petition was filed against ‘Satluj’ after the screenings held in Jammu and Punjab
In the last two days, screenings of pirated versions of ‘Satluj’ were held in Jammu and Punjab regions after it was removed from ZEE5. Amidst the ongoing debate surrounding the film, an activist shared online that he has filed a petition against these screenings of Diljit Dosanjh and Arjun Rampal’s movie.Advocate Vineet Jindal took to his X account (formerly known as Twitter) and shared that he had recently filed a petition against the film, saying that the screenings held for ‘Satluj’, originally titled ‘Punjab 95’, were illegal. His post read, “Through this Letter petition before the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, I seek appropriate action against individuals, religious organizations, and political parties involved in organizing illegal public screenings of the film. Such screenings are said to be used to promote violence and spread hatred against a community as well as security agencies.He further urged that the authorities should take strict action and officially file FIRs against those conducting the screenings, as it is illegal to show a film that has not been cleared for certification. He added, “These illegal acts pose a serious threat to peace, public order, and communal harmony in the State of Punjab. Therefore, I seek appropriate directions to prevent such unlawful screenings and to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted in accordance with the law.“
